Some Comparisons and Similarities of SEO and SMO:
Link Building: SEO - Inbound links are a large determining factor in rankings. SMO - Links are a result of success, which means that SEO benefits from good SMO. On Page Elements: SEO - Title tags, headers, image title, bold text and use of keywords are all influential on search engine rankings. SMO - Coding and tags are not so important, while visual attention grabbers make a bigger impact. Titles: SEO - The title tag of a page tells the search engines what a page is about and carries a lot of weight in the rankings. SMO - Titles and headlines are extremely important for grabbing attention and getting users to click-through. Content Must be Easily Readable… SEO - By search engine spiders. SMO - By human readers. Content: SEO - Quality content is important in order to rank well. SMO - Quality content is important in order to hold the readers’ attention and win their approval. Content Plus: SEO - Content alone will not produce high rankings. The structure of the site must also be sound. SMO - While quality content is essential, visual presentation can also make a big difference. Analysis: SEO - Analysis is necessary in order to know which changes have made an impact (positive or negative) on the site’s rankings. SMO - Analysis is necessary to know what types of content draws interest. Austin Condos,Austin Condos for sale

There are a lot of similarities and differences between SEO & SMO. Because of this, and the idea that one cannot take over the role for the other, it is important to know when and why to use each optimization technique. Some of the similarities are... 1.Linkability - If people don't have a good reason to link to you then they probably don't have a good "real" reason to visit your website either. Be careful though, linkability and linkbait are not the same thing. Some of the keys to linkability are: content, design and usability. 2.Good content - This almost does not need an individual category because part of linkability is the good content. But, the point needs to be stressed; you can have good content that does things besides giving people a good reason to link. 3.Pull marketing - Both SEO and SMO are way to attract people to a website without pushing a message on them, but instead showing them what value your website can bring to them. Some of the differences are... 1.Channels - This is obvious but needs to be mentioned, SEO is about search engines, primarily the big 3, Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft (GYM). SMO is about the "new" social media sources that have crept up, including blogs, bookmarking websites, media sharing websites etc... 2.Target Audience - Often times, the people checking their new messages on MySpace are looking for something different than they guy shopping for a new TV. 3.Goals - With SMO you might be looking to build community while with SEO you might be looking to sell something. Both SEO and SMO can also share the same goals. 4.Participation - With SMO you should actively participate in the same activities that your audience does, with SEO there is not as much participation. |

Search Engine Optimization [ Creative content writing IMO ] - and Social Media Optimization are two pillars. Organic rankings, and direct targeted traffic.
What is the difference? Depending on who you ask - you'll hear small variances. A couple generally accepted definitions are: SEO consists of on and off-page structural, content, and link architecture modifications to gain a free listing in a search engine. Social Media Optimization involves more community discussion and organic word of mouth promotion of a website - in turn gaining targeted traffic to web properties. Which do I prefer to use when explaining promotion and marketing? Neither. I use the term Search Marketing and it works well with my small recap. ![]()
