I have not noticed any real effect on traffic from directory submissions, or maybe its just me.

directorycritic has an impressive list of directories..sucks when you take all that time submitting then check back in a couple months and it becomes a parked domain.

That's true ktshannon, posting to the bunch of directories with out relevancy and consistency would certainly hurt the SERP’s.
