Multiple links from deep pages on the same domain

Do you guys think its worth getting extra links from deep pages on various sites, or is the first one the most important? E.g. with articles - there's a set of (say) a few thousand core sites where every article gets published. Is there really any point bothering with more after the first?

It seems a little questionable to continually place deep links on sites pointing to the same place (or similar places), do you think there's much in it?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean.

Are you talking about submitting different sub-pages of your site to different directory categories?

Well, say with article distribution; the first article gives your target site a lot of deep links, each placed on a different article recipient site. If you distribute another article with links to the same target site, you'll end up with 2 deep links from each of these article directories, perhaps using a different link text, perhaps even pointing to different locations on the target site.

Is it really worth much beyond the first article? Is this going to be a case of diminishing returns?

OK, I see. I tend to target one keyphrase per page, so I would have one (or more) articles with a link to each page and keep the anchor text and url the same.
