Does anyone actually use this? Are well all agreed that it's completely pointless?

1. The links it provides are placed into an easily identifiable "paid links" type group
2. Links often come from completely unrelated pages
3. Links are usually placed in a non-prominent area
4. The lack of permanence in links makes any benefit fleeting at best
5. The links aren't embedded in text
6. The links rarely generate traffic

Am I wrong? Why was it so popular to start off with? I know I noticed extra indexing and rankings back in 2004 - does anyone still see anything like this from dp co-op?
